About us
My name is Hanni Joronen. I live with my family in Akaa which is a
town of 14 000 people approximately 160 km (100 miles) north of Helsinki,
the capitol of Finland.
I have a family of myself, my spouse Tommi, daughter Ida-Sofia (-99) and son
Onni (-04). The benefits of full membership are also enjoyed by Telma and Tinni.
My education is nurse of acute care but at the moment I am working in my own shop called Aarrepuoti Ihanuus in Tampere Markethall . Apparently, one entrepreneur per family is not enough since Tommi as well took the step and started a company of his own this summer 2008. His company is called Iogen Oy.
I've always been "animal crazy", although couldn't have had anything more
exciting pet than an aquarium due to allergies of my siblings and mother.
After all it didn't slacken the speed, I went regularly (practically lived
there) to a horse
stable nearby
and took the neigbours' dogs for a walk or took care of their cats
while they were out of town etc. so I managed to fulfill my quantum of
fondling. In the age of 13 I moved in a single-family house with my family
and I got my first hairy pet, a rabbit called Jassu. Oh, I was so happy! |

Since the age of 8 Tommi has had a dog. First his family took a rottweiler
called Ana and then
a Belgian Shepherd Dog, a groenendael called Ami. Having a dog in his family has always been self-explanatory. It goes without saying that I couldn't have had better luck :-).
My first dog was Nelli.
She was a mistreated and unregistered borzoi who I took to live with me out
of pity. Her nature was unbelievably lovely and she was truly dedicated to
her family. After many occasions and changes in my life, Nelli moved to live
with my dear friend Marjo (who by the way ownes Hanishan Sleeping
Beauty and Hanishan Ultima Thule) to become
a very much loved part of her family. |
I had always dreamt of getting a dog which I could train to be obedient,
probably a working dog. First I thought it could be rottweiler but after a
conversation with a Dobermann-breeder my decision came clear: that's my
breed! So Dufas Ursula,
Viivi came into my life. She was quite a package; always full of energy!
Excluding only messenger dog trial we went into all working dog sports,
focusing mostly on protection a.k.a
IPO and also a
bit of agility. We didn't enter any real competitions, mainly due
to mistress's bad fear of exhibiting but it was quite funny to wander in the
woods due to whatever the sports :-) Our second dobermann was Anthill's
Royal Bertta, who was out of the same winning male, Lobo Royal Bell as Viivi. After all, Bertta was more like a family dog who enjoyed more about
being the center of attention in more cosy situations and so we focused
mainly on the basic obedience with her. Viivi and Bertta wandered to the
Rainbow Bridge together on December 2000.
After that, my life has been so busy due to having a second child and other activities that I haven't found it reasonable to get a dog so active and requiring a comprehensive training (read: many nights per week practising) as dobermann.

Basenji came to my thoughts some day when I saw a funny article in a pet
magazine. The first one came almost stealthily into our lives (year was
1995). We were supposed only to go to see a couple of basenjiboys without a
home. Well, as you might quess,
Elmo came into my life and made
my head spin around!
Unfortunately, Elmo didn't
make even his first year due to anesthesia. I was totally devastated. How can
such a small and perfect dog face a destiny like that.
Luckily, because of Elmo the tracks of my life were clearly visible; no more life without basenjis! Since then, we have had the chance to share our lives with several wrinkle-faces. Boy, not a boring moment ever since :-).

The first ever Hanishan litter was born in 1999 and we are having basenji-puppies on an unregular basis. Every litter is
thoroughly thought. I am very critical on what comes to a dog's health and am not afraid to skip breeding dogs who do not fullfil my requirements of a fine breeding dog. Out of every litter we aim at putting at least one curly-tail to a co-owned home, just to ensure our
future. After all, you are not able to keep all these fabs.
Due to my successfull work in breeding I was awarded the Breeder's Award in 2007 by Finnish Basenjis ry. I feel extremely honored by this award!
I have been an active member of Finnish Basenjis ry. for some years. At the moment, I am a member of the Breeding Committee which employs me so much that I have had to quit my membership in the other two committees I find important to myself , the racing committee and the show committee. There simply are not enough hours in a day for entrepreneurship, family issues and other club activities.
In case you have anything to ask about our basenjis, please do not hesitate
to contact us. We will be happy to answer all your questions !
I am a member of :
